An evening wind-down that does not need an app
Most wind-down advice assumes you have a spare hour and an interest in tracking your sleep. This one assumes neither.
There is a particular version of the evening where you are home, you are sitting down, the day is technically over, and your body has not been told. Shoulders still up. Jaw still set. Mentally still drafting a reply to something.
Most advice about this assumes a spare hour and an enthusiasm for tracking things. Here is a version that assumes neither.
Change one thing about the light
You do not need to sit in darkness. Turning off the brightest light in the room and leaving a lower one on is enough of a signal, and it costs nothing. If your home has a single ceiling light per room, a lamp is a worthwhile purchase.
Give your feet ten minutes above your heart
Lie on the floor, rest your lower legs on a chair or the edge of the bed, and stay there. Ten minutes is plenty. Circle your ankles slowly a few times, then stop moving.
This is the least demanding thing on this list and the one people skip. It is worth not skipping.
Work your own arches for two minutes
Sitting down, rest one foot across the opposite knee. Using your thumb, press slowly along the arch from the heel towards the ball of the foot. Find a spot that feels tight, hold steady pressure for a slow count of five, then release and move on.
This is not reflexology, which is a trained discipline with a structure to it. It is a rough approximation of one small part of it, and it still helps. Do not press hard enough to hurt.
Put the phone somewhere with a distance to it
Not face down on the table beside you. Across the room, or in another room. The distance is the point, because it converts checking it from a reflex into a decision.
Where a session fits
A weekly reflexology session is not a replacement for any of this. It is the version you do not have to organise or remember, once a week, where someone trained does the work and you are not responsible for anything for an hour.
Many of our Fairlands guests book a regular evening slot for exactly that reason. If your evenings are the problem, a session is a reasonable place to start building a routine.
Kyochi Foot Reflexology is a wellness and relaxation service. It is not a substitute for medical diagnosis, treatment, or emergency care. If you have a health condition, consult your doctor before booking.
